"Big Easy" Visions series
Interest in New Orleans grew out of Stone’s living in Baton Rouge for several years, which was only a short drive away. She visited frequently while living there in the mid-late 1980s and visited often after returning to the Northern VA/DC area in 1988.
The real fascination with that area led to reading about the history and culture, that is quite unlike that of other parts of the country. With numerous photographs to use as reference material, Dotti began to entertain the idea of creating a series of mosaics she refers to as “Big Easy” Visions! Reading about South Louisiana’s history helped to increase an understanding of the area and led to an expanding fascination for New Orleans. A fellow artist asked if she has ever thought of using Katrina as a catalyst for an addition to this series, thus the development of the Katrina mosaics.

The people, the architecture, the food, the music, the artists, the wildlife, the way of life, the culture … so much to draw from for inspiration. Both parts of this body of work are a continuing work in progress and there will be new works added from time to time. |
