Brief Bio:

Dotti Stone studied art at Richmond Professional Institute (now Virginia Commonwealth University) and graduated in 1965. Her career for many years was as a professional photographer, owning two studios that passed on to staffers and are still in operation in the Wash DC area. In the late 70s and early 80s, Dotti worked in stained glass and operated as Great Falls Stained Glass outside Washington DC. She did commission installations in homes and for some commercial establishments in the greater DC area, as well as taught classes in Herndon VA.

In 2004 Stone took up mosaics and since relocating to Wirtz VA in 2007 has worked continuously as a mosaic artist and teaches this centuries old art form at Bower Center for the Arts in Bedford and for the Roanoke County Parks and Recreation Dept and in the spring of 2010 at Envisions in Moneta VA. She exhibits in local and national shows, and on international forums. She had a mosaic accepted for inclusion in the Steve Irwin Tribute Mural (a mosaic comprised of works from worldwide mosaic artists) – it was assembled and installed by Sandy Robertson and her team at OzMosaics, the originator of this memorial exhibit at the Australian Zoo in Brisbane for the beloved “crocodile hunter” and wildlife conservationist.

Dotti is teaching mosaics classes, funded by 21st Century Community Learning Centers after school programs, to elementary school students at Montvale ES and at Bower Center for the Arts to students from Bedford MS.

The timeless beauty and versatility of ancient mosaics and the ease with which it integrates into modern society is what attracted Dotti to this medium.
